Love staying here. Our cabin is always spotless, with all mod cons. The lake and wildlife are a pleasant distraction from the usual reading or watching TV. We have stayed here 3 times, and intend to keep doing so.

What a treasure of a find , this place is superb, not only in its tranquil setting but in every aspect. We had a clean cabin situated on the lakes edge with nature surrounding us and the turtles were great visitors and trees with an abundance of birds. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake and all the wildlife calls made for a relaxing time. The hosts were obliging in all ways and were genuinely friendly and great conversationalists. We highly recommend a visit.

Individual cabins surround a lake. Numerous water birds on the lake and parrots and kookaburras in the trees. Cabins well appointed - some have been refurbished and others are due for the same treatment. Close to the beach and restaurants. A tranquil spot to stay.

Just what we needed for a CV19 Break. Just made it before border to NSW closed! Booked 4, stayed 5 nights, would have stayed more but they were booked out! Agree with other reviewers re great location, wildlife, great cabins with everything we needed and surprisingly good privacy and quiet. So good being in outdoors yet still abiding with restrictions. Not mentioned by others, Deb is a great tourist advisor, describing everything the area has to offer, and then getting us bookings we preferred at short notice.

Best place to stay for a relaxing wk end with family. I never thought turtles would happily come up to us but they do. Friendly staff, simple perfect stay. Kids, hubby and I couldn't be happier. Clean rooms, and I am a housekeeping manager so I know what standards they should be. Thanks for a great stay.

The cabin is spacious and has a well equipped kitchen. The furnishings are quite eclectic without any particular theme or décor, but the bed was a highlight - very comfortable. The birds in the lake are quite noisy and some might find this annoying, though we didn’t. The attraction of some fauna was a key reason for selecting this accommodation and we quite enjoyed the antics of the various birds and large population of tortoises. We were also happy with the location; it is within comfortable walking distance of the pier and a range of restaurants/cafes. We were a little disappointed that the television didn't receive all channels and the wifi was not particularly effective.

When looking for a a quiet place to stay in Hervey Bay, could not have been happier with Sanctuary Lakes Fauna Retreat. Seriously, so peaceful immediately overlooking a private lake with amazing bird life - and tortises! Just beautiful. And to think just a five minute walk to the beach, so easy. Self contained cabins are modest, but most comfortable with private balcony overlooking the lake. Well presented and spotlessly clean. Could not fault anything - our cabin 24 was just great, loved it. Definitely recommend and will return.

What a beautiful setting. Sit on your own verandah eating breakfast and watch the turtles swim toward you. Also plenty of bird life in a peaceful setting. Our only disappointment was in the cleaniness of the room, but that was quickly rectified. Our hosts were friendly, easy to talk to and very accommodating. We went on a two day tour to Fraser Island and we had split our accommodation nights. As they had availability they offered our luggage and car to stay at the cabin. Greatly appreciated.

This place is great, I would recommend for anyone visiting Hervey Bay. It is a 1 minute walk to the beach, close to Woolworths, and has an on site laundry and pool. Deb and Rod are very friendly and will help you with anything you need. They made my partner and I feel very welcome and comfortable. The cabins are beautiful and clean, all of which have a lake view. There is spectacular wildlife around the lake, very friendly and can be hand fed with bird food that can be bought for cheap at reception. Our favourites were all the ducks Deb and Rod have raised, and the turtles that came up out of the lake for food. I will definitely be coming back.

Sanctuary Lakes is a great stopping off point for Fraser Island. The cabins are located in a very idyllic setting and are spacious and well equipped. The site is extremely peaceful except for the rather noisy wildlife, from dusk onwards - but that is part of its appeal! Rod and Deb were very accommodating, especially as I had an unplanned return visit the following evening!
